Booking a photoshoot shouldn’t feel confusing or intimidating — it should feel exciting. One of the questions I get asked the most is, “How does the process work once I decide I want to book?” So today, I’m walking you through exactly what it looks like to go from inquiring to receiving your final gallery with Kayla Ann Photography.
Whether this is your very first professional photoshoot or you’ve been in front of the camera before, my goal is to make the entire experience simple, personalized, and comfortable from start to finish.
Step One: Booking Your Session
When you’re ready to book, everything starts on my website. You’ll first review the sessions I currently offer and choose the one that best fits your vision.
Here’s a breakdown of the session options:
The Foal Frame
A 30‑minute portrait session including 5 professionally edited images. This option is perfect for black-background portraits, confirmation images, or clients seeking something clean, simple, and timeless.
The Mane Moment
A 1‑hour equine portrait session, fully styled around your goals and ideas. This session allows more flexibility for outfit changes, locations, and creative direction — ideal for clients wanting a more in‑depth, personalized equine experience.
Lazy Dayz Ranch Sessions
A session hosted at Lazy Dayz Ranch. Clients can haul their own horse or model with one of the ranch horses. This is a relaxed, accessible option with a beautiful ranch backdrop.
Step Two: The Questionnaire & Session Planning
After your session is confirmed, you’ll receive a short questionnaire designed to help me prepare for your photoshoot and tailor it completely to you.
The questionnaire covers things like:
- The type of session you’re booking
- Your desired location
- Who (and what!) will be included — people, horses, pets, or livestock
- Your goals for the session
- Any ideas around mood, outfits, colors, or overall vision
- Schedule flexibility if a date change is needed
- Any concerns, must‑haves, or special details
I also encourage clients to create a Pinterest inspiration board before their session. This gives me insight into your style, the poses you’re drawn to, and the overall look you’re hoping to achieve by the end of your session.
My goal during planning is simple: to understand your vision so I can bring it to life.
Step Three: Your Photoshoot Experience
It’s completely normal to feel a little nervous at the beginning of your session — almost everyone does. That’s why I start each shoot with very basic movement and posing prompts to help you loosen up, get comfortable, and build trust.

As the session progresses, most clients forget about the camera entirely. I guide you through poses, adjust details, and work efficiently to capture all the styles, poses, and moments you’re hoping for within your session timeframe.
If horses are involved, my equine background allows me to position them in ways that highlight their best features while keeping everything safe and stress‑free.
Above all, I focus on creating an environment where you feel relaxed — like you’re working with a friend, not a stranger. That comfort is what allows authentic, confident images to shine.
Step Four: Editing & Gallery Delivery
After your session, I carefully edit all usable images from your shoot. Once complete, you’ll receive a full online gallery delivered straight to your email and phone via both email and text.
From your gallery, you’ll be able to select a set number of images included with your session package. If you fall in love with more images (which happens often!), you’ll also have the option to purchase additional photos.

What Makes the Experience Different

I take pride in offering more than just beautiful images. I care deeply about the experience itself — making sure you feel seen, comfortable, and confident throughout the entire process.
Clients often tell me they feel like we’ve known each other far longer than just an hour, and that connection makes all the difference. Between my attention to detail, equine knowledge, and genuine love for what I do, every session is handled with care from start to finish.
